Statement issued by the Ministry of Social Solidarity:
Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, visited the headquarters of the Al-Baqiyat Al-Salihat Association, a member of the National Alliance for Civil Development Action, and inspected the Alzheimer's Academy and the association's remote care unit.
She also inaugurated an exhibition of the association's creativity, which coincided with World Alzheimer's Day, which falls on September 21 of each year.
The visit included a tour of the academy and a workshop on art therapy for the elderly and Alzheimer's patients. She also inspected the remote care unit and the art exhibition, which featured paintings and creative works by the elderly and Alzheimer's patients.
During her visit to the art exhibition, the Minister of Social Solidarity praised the talent and creativity of the elderly and Alzheimer's patients, emphasizing that integrating them into cultural and artistic life contributes to enhancing their self-confidence and providing them with positive energy that supports their psychological and social stability. Dr. Maya Morsi also inspected the remote care unit and listened to an explanation from those in charge of the unit about its work. It is a fully equipped technology center, primarily aimed at remotely monitoring patients from home and nursing homes. It was established as an optimal investment in digital transformation and a qualitative response to limited capacity and the presence of waiting lists, which necessitated the continuation of patient services and support for their families. The center, which operates a 24-hour medical, therapeutic, service, and care follow-up system, is managed through a central operations room at the association.
The Minister of Social Solidarity expressed her admiration for the integrated scientific and practical efforts she witnessed, explaining that the Alzheimer's Academy and the services provided by the Alzheimer's Association reflect a qualitative shift in the field of care for the elderly and Alzheimer's patients.
Dr. Maya Morsi emphasized that the association combines advanced medical care, psychological and social support, and rehabilitation, along with investment in training and capacity building. These pioneering efforts represent an inspiring model of integration between the state and civil society in serving the most needy groups. For his part, Dr. Ahmed El-Faqi, CEO of the Al-Baqiyat Al-Salihat Association, emphasized that the academy aims to provide training and professional development for Alzheimer's patient caregivers across 10 levels: medical, social, psychological, care, spiritual, media, legal, rehabilitation, art therapy, case studies, and training on the remote care system.
El-Faqi explained that the academy also aims to prepare the community for dealing with the elderly to prevent them from falling into the Alzheimer's quagmire. It also aims to raise awareness of how to safely interact with Alzheimer's patients, contributing to a safe, stable, and patient-friendly social and psychological environment that helps stabilize the condition and mitigates the rapid deterioration that occurs as a result of a lack of community awareness. Al-Faqih pointed out that the academy works to raise community awareness about medical services for Alzheimer's patients and the elderly, as well as neurology, social and psychological care, art therapy, therapeutic nutrition, and their relationship with the elderly and Alzheimer's patients.
The Minister of Social Solidarity was accompanied during the visit by Eng. Margaret Saroufim, Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity; Mr. Ayman Abdel Mawgoud, Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity; Dr. Mohamed El-Aqbi, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity for Strategic Communication and Media; Ms. Dina El-Seirafi, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity for International Cooperation, Relations, and Agreements; Mr. Hesham Mohamed, Director of the Office of the Minister of Social Solidarity; Mr. Mahmoud Shaaban, Director General of the General Administration for Elderly Care; Dr. Marwa Yassin, Chairperson of the Association's Board of Directors and Member of the Board of Trustees of the National Alliance for Civil Development Action; Dr. Ahmed El-Faqih, CEO of the Association; and a number of its leaders and employees.
